Rafters have been raised, rain in the forecast

Before the Memorial Day weekend, the construction guys managed to get most of the rafters up on the house. WOW!!! I knew I would have a large amount of attic space, but HAD NO IDEA I would have this much! There is about 12 feet at the tallest point. We are seriously considering adding a second story in the future (a few years down the road). After looking at my options on a second floor, I believe I could make it happen. Oh well, that's in the future, right now I am concentrating on getting the building process done.

As for the rest of the week, rain is dotted in the forecast. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully after a week or so, rain won't be a major factor anymore as we hope to be 'in the dry'.

Here are a few pics of the rafters taken this morning. Sorry there are only three, it starting pouring down rain while I was out there.

Starting to Take Shape

Sorry for the delay in posting. We are moving right along with the framing process. As of this morning, all walls are up, doors and windows have all been framed out, OSB has been put up around most of the exterior of the house, and ceiling joists have been laid over the entire house, excluding the garage. WOW! Pretty good for it just being Wednesday! They will be working on rafters for the roof for the rest of this week and into next week.

We have, once again, made a few modifications to the layout of the house, this time with the patio door. In this pic, there are two openings on both sides of what will be our fireplace. The plans originally called for these to be windows and the patio door to be in the breakfast room. (to the left) We have since change that to a window in the breakfast room and the door to be in the great room on the left (pic) with a matching 'stationary door' on the right. We made this decision because we felt it would be a better use of space, thinking that a door in the breakfast room could get in the way of our table and chairs. All in all, I think it was a good decision, and there was no extra labor or materials involved, since we made the decision before doors and windows were framed.

As of tomorrow (Thursday) We hope to have all our decisions made on shingles and brick and get that ordered right away. They will be needing it before we know it!

Walls are almost complete!

Builders managed to find a few hours in between rain showers Wednesday to put up more walls leaving only our closet, laundry room, and outside master bedroom wall left to build. I included several pics in this post...check them out below!

LET THERE BE WALLS!

Yes, my friends, it is true! Let the framing begin! The builders were there today and managed to get the three bedrooms on the south side of the house, as well as the bathroom, partially framed in about 5 hours (they left at noon due to rain). I am pleased with today's progress. It comes as a welcomed change from everything standing still for the past two weeks.
The weather is 'iffy' for the rest of the week-definitely going to rain here and there. That's part of it, I guess. I'm not going to estimate a time for completion of framing (it seems the more I estimate, the slower things move), but we are definitely off to a good start.

Once again, this afternoon was filled with shopping for such things as cabinets, mantle, counter tops, showers, tubs, sinks, body sprays, etc., etc., etc. (PHEW!) We have a pile of brochures and catalogs to sort through in order to find the right match and color for everything, but all in all, we are closer to making a decision on all these.........decisions.

A few minor modifications were made to the kitchen to better accommodate cabinets and appliances. We had originally had our kitchen sink 'catty-cornered', but to better make use of our space, we decided to move it slighty, facing it toward the breakfast room window. Also, the dishwasher was moved around due to this change. I think, in the long run, it will all work out better this way.

Below are a few pics of the framing of the 3 guest/kiddos bedrooms...ENJOY!

Quick Update: Hurry Up and Wait

Just a quick update on the construction process. We are waiting on our contractors to begin framing the house which will HOPEFULLY happen this week sometime. I am very anxious to get rolling on this stage of the construction.

Still in the process of selecting all the sizes, shapes, and colors that will make up our house. Trying to narrow down the brick color as there are SO many choices! We are taking some time tomorrow to finish choosing the doors, windows, and tubs.

On a personal note, Wednesday is mine and Emily's 3rd wedding anniversary. YAH! Time flies when you are having fun with the one you love. Can't believe its already been 3 years! I love you baby...I can't wait to have many, many, many more!
